Khmer Rouge survivors react to First They Killed My Father
Three years ago on this exact date, February 18, 2017, ‘First They Killed My Father ‘premiered in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Over 2000 Khmers came out to watch the film, which was shown on a gigantic outdoor screen in the middle of Angkor Wat. I was so moved to have worked with so many talented Khmers, most of whom were survivors or children of survivors of the Khmer Rouge Genocide. I am so grateful to them all, and proud to be part of the team that made this beautiful film. A film that speaks not only of war but of our love for our families, country, and rich history.
